IU President Pamela Whitten
Pamela Whitten became the 19th president of Indiana University on July 1, 2021.
She is the first woman to serve as president of IU in the university’s more than 200-year history.
An accomplished educator and researcher, she has held a variety of leadership roles, beginning at Michigan State University where she served as a dean for five years, and most recently as president of Kennesaw State University.
President Whitten holds a Ph.D. in communication studies from the University of Kansas, a Master of Arts in communication from the University of Kentucky and a Bachelor of Science in management from Tulane University. She is an internationally recognized expert in the field of telemedicine. As part of her work in higher education, she additionally held leadership roles at the University of Georgia and the University of Kansas Medical Center.
A'Lelia Bundles
A’Lelia Bundles is the author of On Her Own Ground: The Life and Times of Madam C.J. Walker, a New York Times Notable Book that was the nonfiction source for Self Made, the fictional Netflix series starring Octavia Spencer.
She is brand historian for MADAM by Madam C. J. Walker, an innovative line of hair care products inspired by her great-great-grandmother. In 2022 she was named the inaugural Center for Africana Studies and Culture Prestigious Fellow in the School of Liberal Arts at IUPUI.
A former network television news executive and producer at ABC News and NBC News, she is a vice chair emerita of Columbia University’s Board of Trustees and chair emerita of the board of the National Archives Foundation.
She serves on several nonprofit boards including the March on Washington Film Festival, Indiana Landmarks and the Schlesinger Library on the History of Women in America at Harvard’s Radcliffe Institute. She is the founder of the Madam Walker Family Archives, the largest private collection of Walker documents, photographs and memorabilia.
She is a native of Indianapolis and honored to hold an honorary doctorate from IUPUI.
Jayma M. Meyer
Jayma is Counsel at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett in New York City, with a focus on antitrust and Title IX law, and a Visiting Clinical Professor, Indiana University O’Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs, with a focus on Sports Law and Public Policy. Jayma advocates the power of sport to bring about social change, with a special emphasis on achieving gender equality in sports through education, activism, and litigation.
Jayma’s recent scholarship on college athletics includes: “A Win Win: College Athletes get Paid for their Names, Images and Likenesses and Colleges Maintain the Primacy of Academics,” 11 Harvard Journal of Sports and Entertainment Law 247 (2020), “It’s on the NCAA: A Playbook for Eliminating Sexual Assault,”67 Syracuse Law Review 358 (2017), and “The Case for a Limited and Conditional Antitrust Exemption for the NCAA,”62 Antitrust Bulletin 31 (2017). She is a regular lecturer and panelist at universities, conferences and symposiums on sports law issues.
Jayma has negotiated Title IX settlement agreements that contain multi-year monitoring provisions with high schools throughout the US and is currently litigating a class action Title IX case against the Hawaii Department of Education. Jayma has co-counseled on Title IX matters with the San Francisco Legal Aid at Work, California Women’s Law Center, Hawaii ACLU and National Women’s Law Center.
Jayma is a Member, Board of Directors and Vice-Chair of the Conference Committee of the Sports Lawyers Association; Emerita Member, Board of Directors for the Women’s Sports Foundation and the National Women’s Law Center; Chair, Dean’s Council, O'Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs, Indiana U.; Member, Advisory Council of the Concussion Legacy Foundation; and Member, Sports Industry Advisory Council, Kelley School of Business, Indiana U. Jayma has been named multiple times a New York Super Lawyer in the categories of Antitrust and Top Women Lawyers and received the Distinguished Alumni Award from the O'Neill School of Public and Environmental Affairs (formerly SPEA), Indiana U. in 2014 and the Indiana U. Bicentennial Medal in 2020. Jayma also has served on multiple local, state and national bar associations. Jayma graduated from Indiana U and Georgetown U. Law Center and is licensed to practice law in NY and CA.
Jayma was a top 10 butterfly swimmer in the world in the early 1970s.
